Silk & Fabric Care Guide
Last revised: October 2026 · Official policy of 8th Heaven Nightwear Atelier (www.8thheaven.in)
1. Mulberry silk charmeuse & satin care
Cold Hand-Wash Only: Submerge in a basin of cool or lukewarm water (under 30°C) with a gentle, pH-neutral silk detergent. Never use harsh chemical powders, bleach, or enzyme detergents.
Do Not Wring: Never wring, twist, or scrub silk garments. Gently press the excess water out between two clean cotton towels and roll carefully to absorb moisture.
Dry in Shade: Reshape the garment while damp and dry flat in the shade. Direct sun exposure weakens silk protein fibres and causes colour fading. Never tumble-dry.
Low-Heat Steam: Iron on the reverse side using low heat and a clean pressing cloth. Alternatively, hang the piece in a warm room and use gentle steam from a distance.
Perfumes & Oils: Apply body lotions, deodorants, and perfumes before dressing. Alcohol and oils sprayed directly onto silk can leave permanent water spots.
2. Alpine fabrics & fine wool-modal blends
Air Between Wears: Alpine knitwear and fine winter nightwear benefit from airing out between wears rather than frequent laundering.
Hand-Wash or Gentle Cycle: Hand-wash cool with a wool-safe detergent, or use a wool/delicate washing machine cycle inside a protective mesh laundry bag.
Drying: Always dry flat on a clean surface. Hanging heavy damp knitwear will stretch the shoulders and distort the natural drape.
3. Fine modal, pure cotton poplin & rayon slub
Delicate Machine Wash: Machine wash inside-out on a gentle cycle with like colours using mild liquid detergent. For initial washes of deep indigo and dark shades, soak with a pinch of salt to set natural dyes.
No Bleach: Avoid optical brighteners, bleach, or harsh fabric softeners. Line dry in the shade to maintain textile strength and breathable softness.
Warm Ironing: Iron on medium heat while the fabric is slightly damp, or use gentle steam to restore the crisp, elegant drape.
4. Storage & atelier garment preservation
Breathable Storage: Store folded inside the breathable cotton dust bag provided with your order. Never store fine silk or nightwear in plastic bags, which trap humidity and yellow protein fibres.
Natural Protection: Use cedar balls or dried lavender sachets in your wardrobe to deter moths naturally. Avoid chemical mothballs that leave persistent synthetic odours.
Atelier Repair Support: If an embellishment or delicate seam thread loosens over years of wear, write to our concierge. We take pride in helping you maintain your heirloom nightwear.
