The Philosophy of Caring for Noble Fibers

Pure Mulberry Silk is among nature's most resilient natural fibers, yet its delicate protein structure requires mindful care. When treated with proper laundering rituals, a hand-finished silk nightgown retains its luminous sheen and fluid hand-feel for decades.

Follow our maison-tested protocol for caring for your luxury silk sleepwear at home.

The 4-Step Silk Laundering Ritual

1. Water Temperature & Detergent Selection Always wash pure silk in **cool or lukewarm water (under 30°C / 85°F)**. Warm water causes natural silk protein fibres to contract and stiffen.

Use only a specialized **pH-neutral liquid detergent** formulated specifically for silks and wools. Never use conventional enzymatic detergents, optical brighteners, or chlorine bleach, which degrade natural protein bonds.

2. Gentle Agitation Submerge the garment into soapy water and gently swirl for 2 to 3 minutes. Never scrub, wring, or twist silk fabric, as friction when wet can shear individual filament threads.

3. Rinsing Rinse thoroughly in clear, cool water until all detergent traces are removed. A small dash of distilled white vinegar in the final rinse can help restore silk's natural pH and lustre.

4. Rolling and Flat Drying Never place silk into an electric tumble dryer. Instead, place the damp garment flat onto a clean, dry cotton towel. Roll the towel up like a cylinder and press gently to absorb excess moisture. Unroll and hang to dry on a wide padded hanger in the shade, away from direct sunlight.

Steaming and Pressing Secrets

  • Always iron silk while the fabric is slightly damp, using the lowest iron heat setting (silk setting).
  • Iron on the **reverse side (interior face)** of the garment, or place a clean press cloth between the iron plate and silk.
  • Alternatively, handheld steam irons held 2 inches away from the suspended gown remove transit creases safely.
